For Christmas, Nathaniel painted the St. Joseph, MI lighthouse for Grandma Joan.
This is the first time he has painted a picture from a photograph.
Instead of using Bob Ross’ wet-on-wet technique, he had to paint this picture in four stages over a series of weeks.
He started off with basic sky and water and then started painting the water spray. Next, he painted the basic lighthouse shapes. After they had dried, he painted the shadowing and the wave forms. The video shows him painting in his final session, where he finishes the structure and the waves. There is a lot of impasto on the waves.
